Hey there JamChallengers 👋! Welcome back to our monthly community challenge!
Tis the season to be jolly as December is here, and with it, comes a new musical challenge that combines the festive spirit with consistent practice: #JamTheHallsChallenge.
We're keeping the same casual, audio-only progress tracking (video being totally optional, if you feel like it), no pressure for perfection, but progress. We'll be also adding a festive twist with surprises through an Advent calendar format. So do check out our socials this month.
How it works
Make sure you learn a Christmas carol this December to play if for your friends and family. Choose your favorite carol from this classic list to get you started, just in case:
Deck the Halls
Jingle Bells
Joy to the World
Any other Christmas carol that excites you.
The goal is to pick something that motivates you to practice.
Play it the classical, covered way, or go crazy and make it your own: 🤘 Shred the Bells,
🎷 Jazz the Halls or 🌴Reggae to the world being some options. Your call, the sky's the limit.
Format
Audio-only recordings would suffice.
Video is optional, if you feel like it (and if you do, time to search for that bad-boy Ugly Christmas Sweater ⛄).
Just record and track your progress, this is critical.
Practice at your own pace: daily, every 2-3 days, weekly - whatever works for you. Share when you can.
We'll share all sorts of useful information in an Advent Calendar format on our socials, so do check it our every now and then.
Timeline
December 1-24: Learn and practice your chosen carol
December 24-31: Share your final version (even if it's not perfect—that's the point!)
Why join?
This challenge isn't about delivering a flawless performance. It's about:
✓ Learning/remembering a Carol to play during the holidays for your friends and family.
✓ Staying consistent through the busy holiday season.
✓ Making progress in small, manageable sessions.
✓ Building accountability with others learning alongside you.
✓ Reducing friction - no video, no high production, just you and your instrument.
✓ Celebrating progress over perfection.
Whether you're a beginner tackling your first carol or an advanced player adding your own flair, there's room for everyone.
By recording your sessions and tracking progress, you leave behind some solid proof on your skill, which you can then evaluate several months from now to see how you're doing.
